Created to mark what would have been the 160th birthday of Kintaro Hattori, founder of the Seiko Watch Corporation back in 1881.
Its design, recreating the very first Grand Seiko, is inspired by Mr Hattori’s vision for the brand to remain ‘always one step ahead of the rest.’ His dedication to innovation remains in the Grand Seiko watchmakers’ determination to create the most precise timepiece humanly possible.
The innovative glass shape was created solely for this limited edition release with distortion-free curves to give a softer style, whilst increasing visibility of the dial from every angle. The ＊mark at the 6 o’clock position represents the 14K white gold indices and hour and minute hands.
This model is powered by the 9R02 Spring Drive movement, uniquely pioneered by Seiko Watch Corporation’s watchmakers. Spring Drive generates energy like a conventional mechanical watch with a mainspring but combines this with an electronic regulator to deliver superior precision, never requiring a battery change. Spring Drive is only available in Seiko Watch corporation timepieces.
Grand Seiko: beautifully, precise Japanese watchmaking, from the pinnacle of Seiko Watch Corporation’s in-house manufacture. Every Grand Seiko features signature high standards of Japanese precision, durability and legibility, handcrafted by Takumi artisans.

The three movements at the heart of Grand Seiko
One of the world's foremost mechanical movements, the culmination of high-precision micro-engineering and the attention to detail of Grand Seiko's expert watchmakers.
Spring Drive is a unique movement that delivers one-second-a-day precision, using just the power of a mainspring.
