With its intricate pattern and life-imbued green coloring, the watch’s dial dynamically expresses the white birch forests that grow in profusion near the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, the manufacturing base for Grand Seiko’s mechanical watches. Inside is the mechanical high-beat Caliber 9SA5, a Grand Seiko-exclusive automatic movement. Thanks to its innovative Dual Impulse Escapement and twin barrels, this movement achieves a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour while offering an impressive power reserve of approximately 80 hours when fully wound. Both the case and bracelet are made of Ever-Brilliant Steel, which shines whiter than conventional stainless steel while offering exceptional corrosion resistance.

The dial captures the essence of magnificent white birch forests, wrapped in the crisp air of the highlands. Iwate Prefecture, home to the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, boasts Japan’s largest white birch forest. White birch is a fast-growing, sun-loving species with remarkable vitality. Their straight, white trunks reaching toward the sun evoke both beauty and strength. Inspired by the vast expanse of these trees stretching endlessly across the landscape, Grand Seiko developed the “White Birch Pattern,” a design that conveys the depth and richness of the forest. Building on this pattern, the dial evokes the mystical sight of layers of fresh green tones filtering through tall, slender white trunks, their vitality expressed through nuanced green coloring that brings the forest’s living breath to the surface.

Ever-Brilliant Steel with superior corrosion resistance

Known as Ever-Brilliant Steel due to its brilliant white hue, this special alloy is more resistant to corrosion than the stainless steels used in even the most prestigious watches today. It has a PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) value 1.7 times higher than the grade of steel used in most high-end timepieces . PREN is a widely accepted standard used to measure corrosion resistance.
