Feb. 7, 2023 Press Release

A new chronograph inspired by the Grand Seiko lion joins the main Sport Collection.

In 2019, Grand Seiko introduced a new sports watch design inspired by the lion, the symbol of Grand Seiko ever since its introduction in 1960. The new series’ design brought a distinct edge to Grand Seiko sports watches with its sharp, angular corners and bold case. Today, a new Spring Drive Chronograph GMT watch with the same powerful design joins the mainstream Grand Seiko Sport Collection for the first time.

The lion, the enduring emblem of Grand Seiko
The lion symbol reflected the aim of the original Grand Seiko team to create the very best timepiece of which they were capable in terms of accuracy, durability and beauty. The lion makes its presence felt on the watch in several ways. The strong and angular case has claw-like, hairline-finished lugs that stand out from the Zaratsu-polished elements. The dial’s delicate “lion’s mane” pattern, exclusive for this case shape, captures the beauty and strength of the lion. With its ivory-white textured pattern, the dial has an invitingly warm feel and yet creates an instantly powerful impact as it reflects the light from every angle with the quiet brilliance that is the distinctive Grand Seiko hallmark.

The dark red accents on the dial allow the wearer to read the time at a glance.

A design created for a new level of sports performance
The 20 bar water resistant watch is made to ensure the highest level of performance in any sporting situation. The hour and minute hands are designed for heightened legibility, and the wide indexes further enhance one’s ability to read the time immediately. The case and bracelet are made of high-intensity titanium, which is about 30% lighter than stainless steel and brighter in colour. The watch sits easily on the wrist, thanks to its curved lugs and low centre of gravity. The bracelet, too, is designed for comfort, with thick, H-shaped links that wrap easily around any wrist size.

The hour and minute hands, as well as the hour markers, have green Lumibrite,
while the bezel and GMT hand have blue, achieving enhanced legibility in dark conditions.

The concave, textured chronograph buttons ensure that the finger does not slip.
The bracelet has a slide adjuster to enable perfect balance on the wrist.
The timepiece is powered by the Spring Drive Chronograph GMT Calibre 9R86, which delivers an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month and measures elapsed time up to 12 hours. The power reserve is 72 hours when fully wound and is shown on the discreet indicator next to the eight o’clock marker.
The beauty of the movement’s finishing is visible on the see-through case back.
The watch will be available in March 2023 at the Grand Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide.
