A high-beat mechanical watch with a dial that expresses the vitality of white birch forests.
Features
This model’s case embodies the Evolution 9 Style, a development of Grand Seiko’s design language known as the Grand Seiko Style. With its intricate pattern and silvery white hue, the watch’s dial dynamically expresses the white birch forests that grow in profusion near the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, the manufacturing base for Grand Seiko’s mechanical watches. Inside is the mechanical high-beat Caliber 9SA5, a Grand Seiko-exclusive automatic movement. Thanks to its innovative Dual Impulse Escapement and twin barrels, it achieves a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour while offering an impressive power reserve of approximately 80 hours when fully wound.

The essence of Grand Seiko is infused with Japanese beauty.
Born in the pursuit of the ideal wristwatch, the Evolution 9 Collection evinces a new design grammar that evolved from the Grand Seiko Style of 1967. Through the new Evolution 9 Style, Grand Seiko forges a new path while honoring its origins.
A dial that powerfully and delicately expresses the beauty of white birch forests
The dial captures the essence of magnificent white birch forests, wrapped in the crisp air of the highlands. Iwate Prefecture, home to the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, boasts Japan’s largest white birch forest. White birch is a fast-growing, sun-loving species with remarkable vitality. Their straight, white trunks reaching toward the sun evoke both beauty and strength. Inspired by the vast expanse of these trees stretching endlessly across the landscape, Grand Seiko developed the “White Birch Pattern,” a design that conveys the depth and richness of the forest. The silvery-white dial resonates dynamically with the vibrant rhythm of the tempered blue seconds hand powered by the high-beat movement.
Movement finishing reflecting the natural beauty of Shizukuishi
The bridge has a gently curving outline that is inspired by the shape of Mt. Iwate and a bend in the nearby Shizukuishi River that runs past the studio where the watch is made.
Caliber 9SA5
Through the use of the highly efficient Dual Impulse Escapement and twin barrels, Caliber 9SA5 achieves approximately 80 hours of operation when the watch is fully wound, even with its high-beat rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour. The movement also allows the watches it powers to be more lightweight through a unique horizontal ring construction.
