In 1993, Caliber 9F83, the first 9F caliber, was released. It delivered advances in every aspect. Its hands were as long as those on every other Grand Seiko watch, the calendar change was instantaneous and the durability and reliability was enhanced. Caliber 9F incorporated key innovations such as a backlash auto-adjust mechanism to eliminate any shuddering of the second hand, a twin pulse control system to deliver increased torque and a special construction to minimize the risk of dust coming into contact with the gear train and stepping motor. No effort was spared and, still today, Caliber 9F can lay a strong claim to being the highest performance quartz watch in the world.
Twenty-five years after the release of the 9F caliber, Seiko is now paying tribute to this pioneering 1993 watch with the Caliber 9F 25th Anniversary Limited Edition. A faithful re-imagining of a classic Grand Seiko Design, this model is certain to be a cherished addition to the Grand Seiko family.
Each quartz oscillator is specially selected to allow the achievement of an annual accuracy of ±5 seconds. The dial features a 5-pointed star as a symbol of this high level of accuracy.
With a Zaratsu-polished case and a white dial, this watch retains the classic style of Grand Seiko’s original 9F quartz watch.
The case diameter has been enlarged from 37mm to 39.1mm and the crystal is a high-definition, dual-curved sapphire with an anti-reflective coating for exceptional clarity.
In celebration of this anniversary, the dial features several unique yet subtle details. At 5 o’clock, the original ‘GS9F’ monogram has been replaced with a special '9F25’ design inspired by the quartz symbol.
Just above the 6 o’clock position on the dial, a 5-pointed star can be found.
This is a special designation reserved for watches of the highest accuracy – that is, watches with an annual variation of ±5 seconds.
The stainless steel case back is adorned with the Grand Seiko lion emblem in 18K gold.
Each watch also bears a unique serial number engraved onto the back.

While the majority of the world's quartz movements are products of automatic assembly, Grand Seiko's 9F quartz movement, with its variety of complex functions, is assembled entirely by hand. Two expert craftsmen combine their individual talents to preserve the high quality standard of Grand Seiko – with one assembling and date indicator and the other in charge of the movement.
