In the heart of a primeval forest in the Shinshu region of central Japan flows the Tateshina Waterfall. In the same region, the elite craftspeople of the Micro Artist Studio create the Spring Drive watches of the Grand Seiko Masterpiece Collection. This manual-winding wristwatch, crafted by these very artisans, conveys time’s eternal flow in nature as it unfolds through this mystic waterfall. The timepiece is powered by the manual-winding Spring Drive Caliber 9R02, which combines the Dual-Spring Barrel and the Torque Return System to achieve a power reserve of approximately 84 hours.

A dial expressing gushing spring water
The hand-engraved dial comes to life through craftsmanship of the highest order. Its engraved lines run in multiple directions, intersecting in a seamless flow to capture the essence of spring water emerging from the earth. The hour and minute hands, as well as each of the hand-applied, diamond-cut markers, are made of 14k white gold, creating a sharp and brilliant appearance. The minute and seconds hands are curved gently by hand toward the dial to ensure supreme legibility. Embodying the serene continuity of time’s natural flow, the tempered gray Spring Drive seconds hand glides across the dial’s textured surface. The dial’s lettering and minute markers are all directly carved, lending the dial depth and dimensionality.
A 44GS case engraved with fluid lines
Echoing the flow of water depicted on the dial, countless hand-engraved lines inspired by the mystic waterfall adorn the 44GS case. Capturing light from every angle, the radiating patterns flow seamlessly across the sharp ridgelines that characterize the 44GS design, expressing the case’s timeless structural beauty. The Zaratsu polishing and brushed finishing on the Platinum 950 case, combined with its delicately engraved surfaces, further enhance the shifting beauty of light and shadow.
Two straps that evoke diverse expressions of water
The watch is offered with two straps that evoke diverse expressions of water. There is a classically styled black strap made of crocodile leather (both outer leather and inner lining) and finished with glazing on the outer leather. There is also a leather strap with metallic accents made by KYOTO Leather. Its design is inspired by the shimmer of splashing water.
Caliber 9R02
This manual winding Spring Drive movement, produced in the Micro Artist Studio, uses the Dual-Spring Barrel, which houses two mainsprings within the same barrel. The feature is combined with the Torque Return System to achieve a power reserve of 84 hours. To ensure the uninterrupted beauty of the watch’s dial, the power reserve indicator is located on the back.
