Unique moments in photographs from the heart of contemporary Tokyo
Tradition and innovation.
Carving out Tokyo time, from the distant
past into the future.
Tokyo, a city that transforms from district to district,
molding time in step with each locale.
A crossroads of glamour, atmosphere, and technology.
Photographer Gregory Harris captures modern Tokyo,
where all of these elements converge.

The dark blue dial of the SLGA021 is inspired by Lake Suwa, located southeast of the Shinshu Watch Studio,
the site where Grand Seiko Spring Drive models are crafted.
As a timepiece, it evokes the image of a rich waterscape on the wrist.
Its radiance shifts with the angle of light, with beauty resembling a water’s surface caressed
by a gentle breeze created through expert craftsmanship.
The glide motion of the seconds hand, unique to Spring Drive mechanisms,
is also reminiscent of the graceful flow of water.
UENO
Strolling down the path of cultural arts and nostalgia.
Ueno Park is home to the Gallery of Horyuji Treasures on the grounds of the Tokyo National Museum, the creation of the late Yoshio Taniguchi (a world-renowned modern architectural giant), along with other museums of art and creations of renowned architects over the decades.
A short stroll leads to Yanaka Ginza, a traditional shopping district rich in nostalgia and human warmth, thriving in Japan’s traditional shitamachi neighborhoods over the centuries.
Here, the modern and the retro gracefully overlap.
Distinguished by the shallow water basin at the Gallery of Horyuji Treasures, Shinobazu Pond, and other sites, this quarter serves as a welcome setting for the Grand Seiko SLGA021 and its dark blue dial.

The dark blue dial of the SLGA021 manifests the image of a lake’s surface in which
ripples caress the shore in the hushed silence just before dawn.
The result is a harmony between the modernism said to comprise the essential nature
of Taniguchi architecture, and the Gallery of Horyuji Treasures with its richly brimming pond waters.
The expression of this dial changes depending on the angle of light and
conveys the rich emotions of those who flock to Yanaka Ginza.
