Several hundred parts work in unison to create a single watch movement. In the depth of serene beauty visible from the outside, the realm of artistic beauty brims with intricacy and tension, and spreads where components too small for their contours to be captured by the naked eye come to life.

9R Spring Drive

A unique mechanism capturing
time’s natural flow

The 9R Spring Drive movement is born in the Shinshu Watch Studio, located within Seiko Epson’s Shiojiri facility. This unique mechanism is crafted to achieve exceptional precision through a crystal oscillator and IC – while drawing all of its power from a mainspring, just like a traditional mechanical watch. Craftspeople marshal their finely honed skills to adjust it to miniscule tolerances. The resulting movement, bringing together the barrel, the glide wheel and other precision components, showcases superbly artistic radiance and consummate precision.

The 9S mechanical movement is brought to life at the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi. All of its key components are produced in-house, and each movement emerges from the hands of consummate craftspeople.
